We are educating our kids the way Soviet commissars raised potatoes. When the harvest didn't come in according to plan, the commissars assembled the best minds in the country, who would come up with "reforms" and new "performance targets." This was followed by big P.R. campaigns admonishing farmers to work harder. But farmers were not at the planning table. The system of collective farms was never changed. Innovation was verboten. It was a futile attempt to make an unworkable system work.
